Devoted to Praying

“No learning can make up for the failure to pray. No earnestness, no diligence, no study, no gifts will supply its lack.” ~ E.M. Bounds

Prayer is essential to our relationship with God because it keeps us centred on His will and purpose for our lives.  We need to remember God loves when we pray and He hears when we call on Him.   Prayers offered in faith open the floodgates of heaven causing incredible change and remarkable results.

Prayer is a conversation that involves talking and listening. Just as in a conversation, you cannot hear the other person if you are talking, if there is too much noise, or if your mind is distracted, so it is with God. If you want to hear Him speak, you must be quiet and you must be focused on what He is saying. Regular conversation with God can transform your life. Many of us know and believe that God wants to speak to us, the question is will we listen!

Application
Here are a few suggestions that can easily lead into a deepening heart-felt devotional prayer time.
1.  Read Psalms 42:1 as you consciously long for a meeting with God. Let your desire for God become a thirst for Him.
2. Take a few minutes to be still. Don’t talk, or read, just listen.
3. Write down anything that you think God might be saying.
4. Read Psalm 103:1-5 and apply it to your relationship with God. Let your heart turn to praise. Praise Him as you view His majesty and blessing in your life and all around you. Ask Him to open your eyes.
5. Take a few minutes to be still before God again. Listen.
6. Write down anything that you think God might be saying.
7. Finally, Read Luke 11:13 as you ask God for the fullness of the Holy Spirit for yourself and your family. Read Galatians 5:22-25. Think about the activity of waking and compare it with keeping in step with the Spirit.
8. Close your time by thanking God for drawing close. Thank Him for what He has revealed and spoken into your life.
